Philadelphia-born and based artist Alloyius McIlwaine paints in a signature style that
colorfully combines street art, pop art, and comic book illustration. Whether painting a
mural or on canvas, his work dances freely in colored planes, vibrating with geometric
abstraction. He often features symbolic shapes, “kudoglyphs,” which give visual
language to positive affirmations. After experimenting with watercolor, acrylic, oil,
charcoal, and sculpture, McIlwaine found peace in freestyled murals developed on-site
without any expectations of the outcome. This freedom of expression led to creating a
signature artistic language that floats happily between figuration and abstraction. It is
energetic, playful, vigorously free, and happy. These murals can be seen in 22 states in
the U.S. and 16 countries around the world, including England, France, Italy, Spain,
Japan, Morocco, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Aruba, and
more. McIlwaine has recently created a vast body of recognizable work, including
national artistic campaigns for Pepsi, Philadelphia Eagles, the NFL, Apple TV, Netflix,
NBC Universal, Peacock, Comcast, Bella Magazine, Miller Lite, Maker’s Mark, Pressed
Juicery and Honeygrow.
