Rising Sun Medallion, 1840-1860
by Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum
These beautiful and unique color combinations are paired with extraordinary motifs for a truly “stop-and-stare” group of fabrics. Motifs are traditional for the period, soft florals and dancing leaves…with a few surprises: geometric stripes in brighter hues are large enough to create impressive borders; the vividly colored small flowers offer an elegant contrast to the ombre circles and small calico prints, and the striped vines resemble the wood-cut textiles of the earlier days of the era. The tea stained grounds have been painstakingly reproduced to mimic the original fabrics.
